MarkItDown processes your files entirely in your browser. There is no server and no backend: conversion runs locally in WebAssembly (Pyodide for Office and text formats, MuPDF for PDFs). Your files and the Markdown they produce never leave your device.
What we collect
Nothing. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. The uploaded file and its converted output exist only in your browser's memory for the duration of the conversion and are discarded when you load another file or close the tab.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, fingerprinting, or third-party tracking scripts. No consent banner is needed because there is nothing to consent to.
Third-party requests
All assets — the runtime, fonts, and conversion engines — are served from this site's own origin. After your first visit, the app is cached by a service worker and works fully offline. No content delivery network or external service is contacted at runtime.
Your rights
Because no personal data is collected or retained, there is nothing to access, export, correct, or delete. You remain in full control of your files at all times.
